GORLESTON, buoyed by two good wins in the past week, tomorrow host Team Bury, who are three places below them in Ridgeons Division One.

Fakenham 0, Gorleston 1

EDDIE Thompson was back for this tough trip to a resurgent Fakenham on Tuesday and Gorleston were pleased to see him, writes David Hardy.

Liam Bartley headed over, then had an effort from a free-kick deflected wide by the wall after he was pushed in the back. The Ghosts responded and had big appeals for a penalty following a Jordan Penty effort, which they claimed struck a Gorleston hand.

James Banford almost put Penty in after miscuing a shot as Fakenham applied lots of pressure towards the Greens goal with Gorleston unable to clear the ball and, when they did get it, they couldn't keep it.

Just before half-time Bartley headed over from a Kyle Howell cross and then Jamie Stockeld worked himself a shooting opportunity, which the keeper parried but nobody was following up. No doubt manager Richard Daniels had some choice words to say at half-time and they almost paid dividends when Bartley was fouled in the penalty area within two minutes of the restart.

Kevin Howes took the kick but it was a nice height for keeper Tom Rix to save. Ten minutes later things got worse for the Greens when Howell went in for a 50/50 challenge with both feet. Howell appeared to win the ball but the referee sent him off.

In their very next attack Bartley was pushed in the back in the box and the referee awarded Gorleston another penalty.

Gary Williams stepped up to take it but keeper Rix did superbly to turn the ball round the post.

As the game entered injury time Pride was forced to save with his knees, the ball rebounded to Stephen Harvey whose shot thudded against the crossbar.

Two minutes into added on time the Greens were awarded a free-kick on the halfway line. Pride took it, Ryan Bloomfield rose in front of the keeper to flick the ball on and Thompson arrived at the back post to fire the ball home.

The Greens took the lead in the 16th minute. Gary Williams did well on the right touchline to keep the ball in play and hook it forward. Bartley chased, beat the defender, coolly touched it round the keeper and side-footed into the open goal.

They struck the killer blow with eight minutes remaining. Chris Sandford sent Pearson through on the right, the keeper forced him wide but his persistence enabled him to get a good cross in and Sandford nodded the ball in.
