GORLESTON Golf Club welcomed their new captains at the traditional drive-in on Sunday. With the classic links course conditions of a head-on wind from the sea and fine mist in the air it was understandable that new club captain Gerry Eagling and new ladies' captain Marie Ogles (pictured) took a number of practice swings before good shots were despatched.
Gerry has been a member of Gorleston for 11 years and is a 13 handicapper. Marie has been a member for nine years .
Gerry's drive of 194 yards was correctly chosen by Rosemary Hodgkin with Marie's drive of 135 yards proving a popular choice for Maureen Dark, Ivan Harvey and Keith Yeaman, each winning a bottle of Champagne.
A clubhouse restaurant lunch followed. A big 'thank you' went to Mary Cooper for selling yardage tickets and for members' generosity in raising a fabulous 225 for the captains' nominated charities, Palliative Care and Relay for Life Cancer Research UK.
Be part of this event next year as for a limited time only there is no joining fee for Gorleston Golf Club.
