Gorleston suffered their seventh league defeat on the road this season when they lost 3-0 to Witham Town last weekend.

Gorleston have failed to score in seven of their last ten games and, not for the first time this season, the Greens gave themselves a mountain to climb almost from the start.

A ninth minute corner was half-cleared but the ball fell to Adam Vyse who placed it back into the bottom corner of the Gorleston net.

Four minutes later it was two.

One long ball from the Witham defence saw Shakeel Morris outpace the Green's defence, on the right this time.

He crossed the ball into the box where Madia arrived to divert it into the net.

Witham keeper Rhys Madden was called into action in the 27th minute. Angus Mackie was fouled 25 yards out and it was he who got on the end of the free kick, heading goalwards but the keeper saved well.

Three minutes later Ross Gilfedder looked to have been pushed in the back in the box but the referee wasn't interested. The ball was picked up by Mundawarara who laid it back to Jacek Zielonka. His dipping effort was narrowly wide.

Gilfedder then saw his header from a Mundawarara cross punched away and, just before the break, a nice Gorleston move down the right saw Mackie's shot pushed away by the home keeper.

All hopes of a comeback were dashed within the opening two minutes of the second half.

A Witham player got in behind the Green's defence, knocked the ball past Jessup and then went down over Jessup's leg.

Okpolokpo was beside him and George Keys on the cover but the referee decided it was an obvious goalscoring opportunity so sent the Gorleston keeper off.

That meant Connor Ingram had to put on the gloves.

His first action was from the free kick on the edge of the box which Vyse drilled goalwards but Ingram showed strong arms to keep the ball out.

He couldn't do anything about the Witham third goal though, in the 53rd minute, when a nice one-two sent Abdul Rasheed through and he slotted the ball past the Gorleston keeper into the net.

Witham did have the ball in the net again with eight minutes remaining but the referee ruled it out for a foul.

Gorleston are back at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium, Crown Meadow, Lowestoft on Saturday when Great Wakering Rovers are the visitors, kick off at 3pm.

Great Yarmotuh lost 1-0 away to Whittlesey Athletic at the weekend.
