Gorleston FC suffered a 5-2 defeat to Lowestoft Town in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division fixture on Boxing Day.

In the 16th minute, the referee awarded the hosts a penalty for what looked a good challenge.

Adam Hipperson took advantage of the late Christmas gift to give his side the lead.

A nice move midway through the half saw Connor Deeks' effort from the edge of the box tipped over the bar by Lowestoft keeper Luke Holt.

Four minutes later the Greens were deservedly back on level terms when they were given a penalty.

Holt brought down Connor Ingram after he had knocked the ball past him and was about to head towards an open goal.

Deeks made no mistake from the spot.

A Deeks' free kick in the 34th minute was headed back across goal by Dominic Docherty to Ingram who diverted it just wide.

However, three minutes later, Lowestoft were back in front when a couple of passes saw the Greens' defence stretched.

The ball found Hipperson in acres of space on the left and he slotted past Jake Jessup into the net.

Lowestoft gave themselves some breathing space in the 53rd minute.

Jessup attempted to punch away a corner but the ball went the wrong way.

A bundle followed in the goalmouth with the ball eventually finding the Gorleston net via Travis Cole.

With 12 minutes to go Logan found a way past Jessup with a low shot from the edge of the box for his side's fourth.

With a minute to go the referee once again pointed to the spot, this time in Gorleston's favour after Jake Spooner was clearly tripped a yard inside the area.

Connor Ingram stepped up to thump home the penalty.

Hoping for plenty of injury time, Gorleston surged forward looking for another but from a Gorleston corner, Lowestoft broke quickly through Adam Sherwood on the right. His low cross was only half cleared off the heel of a defender where it fell to Kyle Haylock who fired in the fifth.

Gorleston's next game is on Monday afternoon when last season's title rivals, Wroxham, are the visitors to the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium.
