Gorleston 1 Wroxham 2

A game that could have gone either way saw a late goal condemn Gorleston to their 15th defeat of the season.

The Yachtsmen gained some sort of revenge for being pipped to the Thurlow Nunn League title last season by the Greens.

Darren Cockrill made three changes to the team that had lost last time out at Lowestoft.

Sam Knock and Robbie Sweeney dropped to the bench and there was no Jerry Dasaolu. In came Jacek Zielonka, Jamie North and new loan signing, Adam Tann.

Gorleston began well and dominated the opening exchanges.

Jamie North's free kick in the 13th minute flew over the bar, before Wroxham keeper Sutton tipped over Zielonka's shot in the 20th minute following an excellent run.

But from Wroxham's first major foray into the Gorleston area, the visitors took the lead when Ryan Curtis collected a flick on, cut inside the defender then slotted the ball past Jake Jessup.

Eleven minutes later, Gorleston were deservedly level.

North's free kick was fumbled by Sutton and the ball fell to Tann who poked it in.

Wroxham began the second half on top.

Midway through the half, Jessup dropped the ball and was bundled into the net with the referee ruling a foul on the keeper.

Two minutes later Gorleston were a fraction away from taking the lead when a low Kai Fletcher cross from the byline was inches away from Jake Spooner's boot at the back post.

Connor Ingram's effort was saved as the game became stretched and Gorleston began to sit deeper and deeper.

Jessup denied Brad Spooner with his legs as the pressure mounted then, with six minutes to go, came the killer blow.

After repelling the first wave of attack, the ball was crossed back into the Gorleston box where it found the head of Jordan King, who had got in front of his marker, and he planted his free header past Jessup into the net.

The Greens finished strongly and had their final chance to equalise two minutes into stoppage time but North's shot from the edge of the area sailed over the bar.

After a disappointing Christmas and New Year period, Gorleston are back on the road this Saturday when they visit New Salamis, 3pm kick off.
