ACLE cruised past their Anglian Combination counterparts to set up a mouth-watering prospect of visiting the Wellesley to take on Ridgeons League opposition Yarmouth Town in the fourth round of the Norfolk Senior Cup.

The Villagers will not be overawed by the prospect after clinically deposing of the Crabs on Saturday. The win could have been greater had the hosts been luckier in the last third of the pitch or had the visitors' keeper Nicky Mace not had a fortunate game keeping his side in the tie by preventing Acle's rampant strike force adding to the score.

Acle's back four of Harrison, Faulks, D Foreman and Nobbs blended nicely in front of young Scott Foreman, who improves with every game. And they had a dominant a midfield of Crane, whose speed continually caused the visiting defenders problems, Holsworth, captain Nicholls and Lee Bennett, who had his best ever game for the club.

The writing was on the wall and it was the hosts who bit the bullet and virtually killed the game off with two goals within a minute.

With the clock showing 26 minutes gone the ball was worked into the Cromer penalty area where Ben Morgan fastened on to the half-chance. He went past Harwood before brushing aside the burly Bradshaw and crashing home from 10 yards to put the hosts ahead.

Straight from the kick-off Acle's Warren Nichols hit the ball from the halfway line and saw the speculative effort hit the back of the net, completely deceiving Mace in the visitors' goal to put the hosts well and truly in the driving seat.

Crane was running riot on the left and a glut of chances went begging. Morgan was having the game of his life and was unlucky not to score when he fired in an effort that came back off the post to Holsworth. But United's midfielder was not able to get the right touch to steer it home.

United's third of the game came from a delightful move down Acle's right involving Bennett, Holsworth and Didwell, who led the line with great aplomb. A good touch saw the ball fed into the area where Davies managed to block the ball, but as it looped into the air Ben Morgan readjusted his position to acrobatically send his volley across keeper Mace and into the top right hand corner for United's third after 75 minutes.

Cromer pulled a goal back on 88 minutes when the impressive Simon Durrant for the only time in the game got out of the shackles applied by Foreman and directed his clinical header wide of Scot in Acle's goal.

But this was proved to be too little too late as the visitors' approach play was negated by the excellent performance of the Acle side and in particular Daniel Foreman, who marshalled the back four like a veteran.
