Acle’s Mummery Cup venture is over. St Johns managed a single-goal victory at Cringleford on Saturday, scoring at the death after both sides had engineered chances to win the game but failed to find the killer touch in their opponents penalty area.

Palmer and Hodds were giants at the heart of United’s defence but they had no answer when with minutes left on the clock and Acle pushing forward to find that elusive goal a mix-up on the edge of the Acle area allowed St John’s predator Carr to sneak the killer goal.

On Tuesday Acle visited North Walsham for a league game under lights and quickly put their Mummery Cup exit on the back boiler with a scintillating display of football that saw them overcome their hosts 3-0.

With the side minus Maddison and Thompson the managing duo decided to put Ian Morgan up front together with Adam Hipperson and Simeon Randall with Daniel Foreman adding his brilliant position play down the left side.

It was from the left side that Acle went ahead when a curling centre saw Randall brilliantly arch his back and send a header past the bewildered keeper.

As half-time approached the ball was fed through to Adam Hipperson some 30 yards from goal. With two body swerves he left three home defenders for dead and hit a shot across the keeper.

Colk Palmer Hodds and Foreman all performed creditably but man of the match must go to Ian Morgan who finished off a “route-one” goal. Keeper Scott Foreman sent a long kick into the opposing penalty area and Morgan showed a turn of speed and headed over the advancing keeper - Robin Tungate.
