Acle United returned from Suffolk with all three points in an entertaining match that saw them beat Waveney 3-2.

Stand-in manager Chris Linehan was forced to shuffle the pack for the Anglian Combination Premier Division clash, with seven reserve players playing due to unavailability.

The champions started the better and from a flowing move out of defence Sandell put Gibbons in, only to be denied by the home keeper.

Sandell then passed to Sanders but his shot was blocked, before the lively Deivydas turned his man to play in Peacock whose cross was glanced wide by Sanders.

Acle were dominating possession, and it was no surprise to see them open the scoring when Foreman’s corner was touched home by the hard-working Forder. Waveney should have squared matters when Tom Warford miskicked from six yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Sandell was creating problems for the home defence, no more so than when playing in Sanders, only to see his shot clear the bar. Waveney were coming back into the game but a combination of poor finishing and a bumpy surface prevented any other goals before the break.

Nelson missed a golden chance after the break but Forder then completed his brace when the ball was flicked on to him as he finished in the bottom corner.

Acle then went 3-0 up when Oscar Stelzer-Hiller nodded home to put them in a commanding position. With 15 minutes on the clock Adam King finished well to reduce the arrears, to help set up a frantic last few minutes, which became even more tense when Bradley Hough burst into the Acle box to unleash an unstoppable drive past the helpless Foreman.

Both Gibbons brothers had excellent games, although Hayden couldn’t quite convert his golden opportunity in injury-time when put clean through but all in all this was a clinical away display.

Acle United: S Foreman, L Gibbons, O Stelzer-Hiller, D Foreman, J McCabe, H Gibbons, R Forder, A Sanders, Deivydas (D Saka 85), S Peacock (J Betts 75), S Sandell.

Another away trip is in store for Acle this Saturday when they visit Cabbell Park to face bottom-of-the-table Cromer Town with a 2pm kick-off. They then travel to Hilltops on Tuesday evening to play Norwich CEYMS, kicking-off at 6.15pm.
