ACLE travelled to Swardeston hoping to increase their lead at the top of Norfolk Alliance Division One.

Dave Huggins scored a majestic 103 and Tom Wilson made 74 but they had to settle for an 18-point winning draw.

Despite not claiming maximum points, this was a very positive performance from Acle and they are now starting to get towards the level where they want to be.

This needs to be continued in their next game, at home to second-placed Bradfield.

Swardeston won the toss, but surprisingly chose to field on what looked like a belter of a track.

Their decision looked to be the right one when Handley was caught behind with the score on five.

But this was to be the only point in the game where Swardeston were on top, as Acle then dominated.

Adam Munford and Dave Huggins dug in to see off the new ball and proceeded to take the score up to 95 before Munford (22) was bowled by Price.

Huggins and Wilson then put the Swardeston bowlers to the sword, with Wilson in particular scoring freely and exploiting the short-leg boundary.

The pair had put on a stand of 111 when Wilson played one shot too many and was caught at cover for a fine 74.

Paul Munford and Huggins pushed the score along to 249, and then after Huggins was caught for a majestic 103, Munford and young Darren Ward continued the onslaught, taking Acle up to an impressive total of 295-6.

Newman and Lee set about the Swardeston top order, making it difficult for them to score.

Cadge (1) was caught at slip off the bowling of Lee, and then the experienced Herathge (14) soon followed.

From this point on, Swardeston made no real attempt to chase down the Acle total, with only young Callum Taylor (21) showing any real spirit.

With the score on 109-3, Taylor was caught by Newman off the bowling of Roberts and then Swardeston folded, losing another five wickets for 15 runs, with Newman and Roberts doing the damage.

The Acle bowlers then had 15 overs at the last pair but were unable to make the breakthrough required to take maximum points.
