Acle held their nerve to clinch a thriller against Brooke by 20 runs.They secured their second consecutive Norfolk Alliance victory, and second place in the Premier Division, claiming the final Brooke wicket with the penultimate ball of a closely-fought match (Acle 24 points, Brooke eight).

GORLESTON FC held their end-of-season presentation night at Emerald Park on Friday.

A packed clubhouse were entertained by footballing legend Sammy Morgan, a man who earned 18 caps for Northern Ireland but who started his career at Gorleston FC.

He presented the awards with first team managers Jon White and Martyn Sinclair. Awards were made to Steve Taylor as managers' player, Lee Hunter as leading scorer and Eddie Thompson as players' player and player of the year.

Reserve managers Alan Smith and Paul Williams then spoke, thanking the lads who had played and reached two semi-finals, before presenting Scott Butler with both managers' player and leading scorer awards and Richard Gillings with players' player award.

Chris Clements, manager of the U18s, then presented awards to Bradley Ingram, manager's player; Thomas Woodrow, players' player and Ian Holmes as leading scorer.

Chairwoman, Ann Santon finished by presenting a special award to Luke Goreham for all the help he has given to the club.

Committee member David Frost was named club person for all his hard work behind the scenes and finally a special award was made to the Greens' legend Gary Ingram on his retirement from first team football.

Gary will still be involved with Gorleston, but felt he owed it to his family to give them more time.

A big thank-you went to Sammy Morgan for making it such an enjoyable evening.

It was a busy weekend for Gorleston, as Saturday saw the Sailor Brown memorial service at St Andrew's Church, followed by a reception at Emerald Park.

It was announced that a soccer tournament will be held annually and Jimmy Jones presented a trophy for this. It is hoped it will be contested by local clubs and details will follow.
