Acle Indoor Bowls Club’s A team recorded a good 7-0 home victory against Beccles, in spite of a few last minute call-offs, to stay top of the league.

Ryan Garman, David Cole, John Chalk and Jamie Howlett had a good tussle with a strong Beccles rink skipped by Mark Todd and won 20-15 after taking the last three ends.

Ryan Stanton, Matty Sparrow, Simon Elliott and George Tubby also had a good tussle against the Beccles rink skipped by Andy Clarke to run out 22-14 winners. An excellent finish to the game saw them win six out of eight ends.

Mark Elliott, Geoff Ramsbottom, Tony Dunton and Danny Ramsbottom were 31-16 victors against the rink skipped by Alan Norman, a five and four seeing them draw clear after 10 ends before six consecutive ends yielding 13 shots saw them winners as top rink.

Jim Fruin, Ivan Borrett, Daniel Noble and Ian Wones were always in control against the rink skipped by David Wood and ran out 25-14 winners.

The Men’s Bs were away to high flying County Arts and the team knew points were going to be hard to get. Richard Pope, Ken Scott-Greenard, Paul Webb and Barney Wymer, playing former Acle player Dan Mills, went 13-3 up at 10 ends, 17-9 at 15 and went on to clinch an enjoyable victory 24-14. That concluded the points tally as Denis Goodley lost 12-23, Brian Grint 2-47 and Wyn Willimott 14-28, a disappointing result against a good team (52-112/1-6).

At home to Bowling Club the Ladies A enjoyed a good competitive game and lost 37-50 (2-6).

At home to Woodlands the Ladies’ B team had a difficult fixture but Sandra Edmonds, Sue Moore and Shirley Genery had a good day, winning 22-11 win. Result: 48-64/1-7.

Playing Yarmouth Blue on the old Acle Carpet the Ladies’ C team lost 48-62 and 2-6 points.

Playing Beccles in the Egham Trophy was always going to be a hard fought game. George Tubby’s rink at home were 9-1 up at five ends, 18-2 at 10 and went on to a comfortable 31-15 win. Daniel Noble’s rink were always close but lost 20-23.

Away Ian Wones’ rink went 11-5 up at 10 ends, then 14-10 at 15 and won 16-14, while Dan Ramsbottom four were close all game but finished 14-19.

Acle won overall 81-71 to move into the next round.
