PLAYING Shotford in the second round of the Vivienne Trophy, a win was expected, and it was a massive one of 103-44.

At home, Pat Pegram's rink were playing against a rink with a player short, giving two players an extra bowl each and a score deduction of 25 per cent. They won 17-16 (17-12).

Margaret Shield's rink started with a six on the first end, by 10 ends were 18-3, scored a five on the 11th, another five on the 20th and won 36-8.

Away, Bing Smith's rink went 13-2 up at 10 ends, 22-2 at 15 and finished 37-3. Anne Drury's rink were

5-11 down at 10 ends, 8-16 at 15 eventually losing 13-21.

The Ladies' A team faced one of the most difficult games of the season at North Walsham.

Joy Pearson, Pat Dickinson and Sue Batchelor were three each at four ends, nine each at eight, and 15-9 at 10. Cool nerves and steady heads were needed to finish with a 15-14 win.

Shirley Lettice, Gwyn Xuereb and Melanie Haylett were four each at seven ends, scored a four on the ninth, another four on the 10th and won 13-8.

Jennifer Hudson, Jenny Kirby and Elaine Cole went into a 6-2 lead after six ends, 11-5 at 10 and finished winning 13-7, losing on only five ends.

Marie Barker's block were five each at four ends, 11-5 at six ends dropped a six on the eighth to go 11-14 down and this changed the game and they lost 12-22.

Result: 53-51 and 7-1 points.

The Ladies' B team went to Gallow where any points would have been a bonus.

Pat Pegram's block were 4-7 down at seven ends, scored a four on the ninth and a five on the 10th to lead 14-7. Playing the final end 14-13 up, the rub of the green robbed them of a point 14-15.

Anne Drury's block scored on only four ends and lost 4-23. Shirley Genery's block scored a five on the eighth end to take an 8-5 lead, dropped 10 shots on the next four ends, dropped a five on the 13th and lost 9-20.

Dawn Horne's block were three each at four ends 6-8 at nine, 7-12 playing the final end - but going for a result dropped a six and lost 7-18. Result: 34-76, 0-8 points.

Acle U25 in the Inter Club Double Rinks played Mid-Suffolk.

At home, Martin Tropman, Ashley Smith, James Duthie and Lewis Moore were 11-6 up at 10 ends, scored a five on the 12th and by 15 ends were 19-7 going on to 22-11, the game conceded at 19 ends.

In the away leg Daniel Seabourne, Will Pitt, Jamie Howlett and Patrick Willimott were 7-5 at 10 ends 12-8 at 15 and the game conceded at 18 ends at 18-8.

Result: 40-19 and on to play the winners of Northampton v Rugby.
