Playing on the World Bowls blue carpet at Potters in the final of the Junior Triples was a memorable experience for three Acle IBC youngsters.

Lia Linford, 11, and Faith Hammond and Ryan Garman, both 15, came up against three more experienced players from the Riverain club in Hertfordshire and were beaten 10-2.

In front of a crowd of over 200 some wonderful bowls was played and the applause was well deserved.

The Acle trio, as expected, were great ambassadors to their club and at the presentation Greg Harlow congratulated both teams.

It was not a good start to 2018 for the A team, being defeated at home by County Arts 5-2/68-64. The rink of Will Pitt, Jim Fruin, Graham Punchard and Jamie Howlett won 18-16 against the Arts rink skipped by Andy King.

The rink of Ryan Garman, Tony Dunton, Daniel Noble and Ian Wones beat the rink skipped by Peter Wilkinson 15-14 while the rink of Ryan Stanton, John Sparrow, Simon Elliott and George Tubby lost 14-18 to veteran Arts skip Brian Taylor. The rink of Mark Elliott, Matty Sparrow, Danny Ramsbottom and Jason Roope lost 17-20 to the Arts rink skipped by Philip Barr.

At Beccles the Men’s B team only picked up one point. Andy Flynn, Arthur Jolliffe, Bill Downie and Brian Grint were game down at the head on the final end but springing the jack gave them a four to win 22-16. Josh Baxter’s rink lost 16-18. Denis Goodley’s lost 14-19 and Wyn Willimott’s rink lost 15-34. Result: 67-87 and 1-6.

A top-of-the-table clash gave the Men’s C a challenge at Bowling Club and Jeff Chegwidden, Mike Hart, David Crosby and John Lettice won 18-15, Richard Hayton, David Wise, Brian Hearn and Mick Askham won 20-18, Bernie Westley, Keith Fox, Peter Evans and Gordon Ives drew 19-19 and Colin Minns’rink lost 8-41. Result: 65-93 and 2½-4½.

Away to Woodlands the Ladies’ A team had Lynne Cannell, Geraldine Reeve and Mel Haylett winning 12-11, Margaret Arnold and Brenda Cole and Lillian Barber winning 13-12 in a 49-53/2½-5½ result.

Playing County Arts in the Vivienne Trophy Jean Claxton, Val Hearn and Jackie Smith won 18-9 at home while Julia Crosby’s trio lost 11-21. Away Pam Symes, Sue Moore and Rose Yaxley won 19-16 but Elaine Donovan’s block lost 12-23. Result 60-69.
