Acle United Ladies climbed to fifth in the league after a 4-3 victory over Brentwood to keep their promotion aspirations to the FAWPL on track.

Acle’s first attempt on goal came after 12 minutes after Rowland was fouled 25 yards from goal. Then Burton’s free kick to the far post was steered just wide by Todd.

However, minutes later, the visitors took the lead. A through ball was threaded behind the home defence and the striker slotted past the advancing Hooper.

The home side were pushing for an equaliser before the break, but at times their passing and final ball was letting them down, although Goodfield’s long pass intended for Todd was half cleared and Pasque’s high shot at goal was collected under the bar by the keeper.

The final action of the half, saw Brentwood beat the offside trap, but the lob over Hooper clipped the top of the bar and went out for a goal kick.

The visitors doubled their lead just four minutes after the restart while at the other end a corner was headed back to Ladbrooke but her cross to the far post drifted out.

Acle were looking particularly dangerous down the flanks through Bullard and Todd and in one attack Todd laid the ball to Burton who saw her shot deflected for a corner. However, on the hour, a similar move saw Acle pull a goal back. Todd attacked down the right flank and laid the ball square to Pasque and on to Burton whose fierce shot gave the keeper little chance.

Buoyed on by the goal, it was all out attack from the hosts who didn’t have to wait long for the equaliser. A ball played behind the defence saw Todd outpace a defender before calmly slotting the ball past the keeper. However, within three minutes Brentwood had regained the lead.

With 15 minutes remaining, Acle once again equalised, Todd crossing from the by-line for Bullard to head home and three minutes later Todd slotted past the advancing keeper to earn Acle a 4-3 victory.

Acle: Hooper, McGuire, Copeman (Cletheroe), Shields, Goodfield, Ladbrooke, Rowland, Todd, Pasque, Bullard, Burton.

On Sunday, the Ladies entertain Wymondham in the semi-final of the Norfolk Women’s Cup at Bridewell Lane at 2pm.
