ACLE ran into stubborn resistance on Tuesday night when they entertained Cromer who were looking to wrap up the league title, but the hosts gave an excellent performance against the Anglian Combination Premier Division leaders.

The best chances fell to Acle who couldn't find the finishing touch to their excellent approach play prompted by the experienced Gibbs.

He continually dictated the play and made sure his fellow defenders were in position to protect the young Scott Foreman whose form has improved massively since the start of the season. James Foreman and Ricky Hodds were real stalwarts at the back and the return to form of Nathan Thompson and Ian Morgan was evident throughout.

It is a great shame that Acle have not been able to produce this form more consistently throughout the season.

SECOND-HALF goals from Anthony Martin and Andy Remblance put the visitors well in command against a luck-lustre home unit who lacked a will to win in a game which was there for the taking.

Beccles rose to the challenge

and defended well towards the finish when Acle allowed them to get the ball into the box much too easily.

Manager Tony Ward will know Acle contributed to their own downfall, particularly midway through the second period when a hopeful long ball was punted over the home defence which saw Martin with the easiest of chances to put the ball past the exposed Scott Foreman in the home goal. Minutes later Acle's defence gave away a needless penalty which Remblance confidently converted to give his side an unassailable lead.

Beccles had been frustrated by Acle for the best part of an hour before Martin broke the deadlock. Goalkeeper Foreman saved well to deny Wilson and Remblance late on.

Acle's best chance came midway through the first period when Daniel Foreman delightfully curled a free-kick into the far corner which was ruled out after the official decided the kick was indirect.
