Acle United saw off the challenge of neighbours Stalham Town to win 3-1 and move off the foot of Premier Division table.

Manager Robert Taylor was pleased with the commitment shown by all the players, but warned there is still plenty of work to be done as he continues to rebuild the side.

United kicked off the match against a strong wind, which both teams struggled to get the better of. Early on Waite played a telling 50 yard ball cross-field to Drake, whose on-target shot was palmed away by the Stalham keeper.

At the other end the dangerous Tipple shot wide of the mark, with the wind continuing to hold the upper hand as the first half ended goalless.

After the restart, Hudson nodded over as Acle began to dominate, pushing the Town back in their own half. Stalham gave away a series of free-kicks and from one Wiley almost connected with Garner’s pinpoint delivery.

In the 55th minute the crowd witnessed what must surely be the Bridewell Lane goal of the season as man-of-the-match Stuart Garner crashed the ball into the top corner of the net from 45 yards to put Acle ahead.

The home side had a lucky escape after Waite lost control of the ball but Camish blasted over for the visitors, while at the other end Garner found Hudson who nodded over from three yards out.

The dangerous Tipple cut in from the right and flashed his shot across the face of the home goal, before Wiley took another long throw and from the knock down Bibby crashed the ball over the bar. With 15 minutes left Waite pulled his man down inside the box and Gainsford stepped up to level the scores. But almost from the restart Acle won a corner and Garner curled in his flag kick directly into the net to put Acle back in front.

Hudson went close with his shot skimming the bar but it was Peacock, back from injury, who beat two men in the box before picking his spot to give United all three points.
