UNITED continued their good form with a great win at top-of-the-table Hempnall in the Anglian Combination Premier Division. Acle are second, one point behind Hempnall, heading a chasing pack of five teams with a game in hand.

They took the lead in the third minute when Ben Morgan put in a great cross and Nathan Thompson out-jumped the defence to send a bullet header into the corner of the net.

Hempnall always looked dangerous, especially from set pieces, and Acle were giving away far too many free-kicks. Hempnall drew level when a good free-kick was whipped in and Nathan, who had to get something on it, headed the ball past Scott in goal.

Both sides were creating half-chances, but neither keeper was really tested.

In the second half Acle started by putting Hempnall on the back foot, restricting them to long balls which were comfortably dealt with by the defence.

Ben Morgan hit the post as Acle looked to get their noses in front, and they took the lead when Louis Holdsworth put the ball into the net from close range following a shot from just outside the area.

Acle survived a couple of scares, Daniel Foreman clearing off the line and a shot curling just wide.

Ben Morgan scored Acle's third when he ran past a defender and shot well past the advancing keeper.

Hempnall's final ball let them down and Acle saw out the rest of the game fairly safely

Acle thanked Hempnall for their hospitality. Their pitch, considering all the recent bad weather, was a credit to their club.

On Saturday, Acle entertain Dersingham Rovers 2pm.
