Acle 2 Brandon 1

ACLE entertained and defeated a good Brandon side which keeps up United’s good early season form which now reads three wins and one loss giving the side nine Anglian Combination Premier Division points and second position behind Mattishall.

From the start the hosts took the game to their opponents and for the early period pinned Brandon in their own half playing some excellent one touch attacking football.

Maddison missed an early chance to open the scoring to put Acle ahead but saw his effort saved by Barlow in the visitors goal.

After 20 minutes Harry Maddison made no mistake when he got on the end of a centre from Ben Morgan to slot the ball in the far corner.

Brandon’s Barlow was by far the busiest keeper and he performed heroics in the 40th minute making a brilliant save to deny Butler scoring Acle’s second.

Acle’s supporters have been waiting for Thompson to start his season’s scoring and he certainly picked the right time to let them wait no longer.

Joe Marsden cleverly beat both Field and Kalinas before rolling a delightful pass into the path of Nathan Thompson who hit a ferocious drive from 20 yards that gave the visitors keeper no chance and United were two up.

Ricci Butler sealed the points for Acle after 82 minutes when he hit a left footed drive that deceived Brandons keeper Barlow.

For Acle several players gave creditable performances including Scott Foreman, Daniel Foreman, Luke Goreham and Joe Marsden but perhaps it is difficult to select a star man of the team when so many play well but should we be pressed to nominate one player it would be Ben Manning.
