Broadland-Great Yarmouth 8, Ipswich YM 15

Broadland-Great Yarmouth played host to Ipswich YM in a match played with a difficult cross wind.

Ipswich built an early lead but despite Broadland's territorial advantage in the second half, the Great Yarmouth side could not get the points on the scoreboard.

Playing with the wind behind them Ipswich used the kicking game to great effect.

Broadland's defence did hold firm with some strong tackles from Sam French and Royce Chiddle, however as pressure continued Ipswich went over in the corner.

Ipswich added to the score after a kick over took a backwards bounce into the arms of the Ipswich centre, a solid tackle from Doggett prevented a score but Ipswich were up in numbers and went over to score (converted).

Broadland's fly half Ash Lightfoot put some points on the board for the home side with a penalty, but moving the ball into the wind was difficult with the pack having to pick and drive from deep inside their own half, which Rian Gallie and Matt Beckett were utilising to great effect.

Ipswich added a penalty to take the half-time score to 15-3.

Broadland's second half was a different story as, playing with the wind, they were able to move the ball.

Full back Doggett had a fantastic run through the middle but support was not as close as it should have been and the ball was turned over.

Line-outs were difficult with the cross- wind but Rye Bilyard was utilising the front and short ball to great effect.

It was through Rye Bilyard's excellent run off a lineout, that Broadland moved inside the Ipswich 22m line, scrum half Simon Ruddick sensed opportunity and began bringing in the forwards on crash balls with Andy Hewitt and Khan Bilyard - who had just joined from the bench - making yards on the fringes.

Finally it was No 8 Adam Towfighi who, although stopped at the line, continued to drive until he found space to ground the ball.

Broadland kept the pressure on Ipswich, both Stacey Ledgerwood and Mark White made forays into scoring range but Ipswich's defence held firm.

Broadland added Mossie Abeysekera and Phil Buckley to the field of play and there was an attacking flair to the play in the backs, however every time Broadland progressed, Ipswich managed to clear.

Broadland never gave up but at the conclusion of the game knew that the match was there for the taking.
