Great Yarmouth and District Football League

ALBION, on the back of a good win in the Junior Cup, entertained Catfield in Division One on the Beaconsfield. Albion, who collected the Division Two title last season, put on a superb show with Kristian Gowing and Peter Oldham keeping hold of things in midfield, not letting the champions have it all their own way.

Although Albion had the better possession first half it was Catfield who had the two best openings. Although it was goalless at half-time you could not argue with the quality of the play.

The Albion picked up again in the second half and were fractionally wide with a header from a corner with Molloy beaten. Catfield then introduced a clearly struggling Chad Pillar and the one slip by both defences in the whole game set up the league's most prolific striker over the last four years. Despite struggling with his ankle he found the net, albeit with a bit of luck.

Albion will feel they should have taken at least a point. Brian Russell handled the game superbly.

MK United took over second spot in Division One as they beat previously second Reedham 5-0 on Mill Lane.

Arren Hogg notched another hat-trick against a side who until Saturday had won their last four.

Lacon Arms, on the back of two very good wins in the Junior Cup, won 4-1 at GY Peelers. With Steve Cuff having a competitive squad this year he gave some players a chance to shine and they did not disappoint.

Shrublands moved clear of the relegation zone as they won by the odd goal of five at Hemsby Reserves despite Aren Howarth being dismissed.

Tramway's bad luck continued as they should have gone into the break ahead but found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline at the end against GY International.

In Division Two, Norfolk and Chance went three points clear at the top as they won 5-0 against bottom side Gorleston Wanderers with five different scorers.

Martham A continued their good run as they won 3-1 at Paperclip despite having just 11 whilst Carpathians won 1-0 at GY United who after three straight wins have now lost the last three. Carpathians as a result moved up to joint second with 12 points.

In the Norfolk Primary Cup the league lost two more sides as Bohemians went out 1-0 against Discovery Royals in a game they felt they should have won and South Yarmouth lost 3-1 at home to Norwich Medics.

However, the league does have two sides remaining after MK United Reserves 5-1 win against Snettisham and Prostar Windows winning 2-1 after extra-time in King's Lynn against Gayton.

This week sees four games in the league cup group stage. Please note this is 90 minutes only and played in a group stage and all matches scheduled this week in all competitions are 2pm kick-offs.
