The Norfolk Junior Cup saw 15 teams from the 49 ties progress by scoring five or more past their opposition, the highest scoring of which were Cromer Town Reserves who defeated Cockers 9-2 to earn their second round place.

Albion (Great Yarmouth) turned on the style late on as they won 5-2 after extra time at Hickling, while elsewhere last season’s runner-ups Foulsham went down 4-1 away at Harleston.

Last year’s Primary Cup Runners-Up Great Yarmouth Town Hall defeated Norwich Medics 5-2 at home and there were early exits for two of the four Ridgeons Reserves League North Division teams as leaders Diss Town Reserves were eliminated 5-4 away at MK United.

The other team to be knocked out from this league was Gorleston Reserves who were beaten 2-1 away at Great Yarmouth & District League Champions Catfield in the feature tie of the round.

It was Gorleston who took the lead courtesy of a penalty in the first half, however Paul Thompson equalised capping a well-crafted move by Catfield.

It was ‘The Cats’ who had the better of the first half and they hit the woodwork on two occasions during this period. With the scores locked level both teams were cautious, however following another flowing move, it was ex-Gorleston player Regan Harman who got to the ball first to poke it past the keeper giving Catfield the lead.

In the dying minutes of the game a scramble from a corner was cleared off the line by Cats’ goalscorer Paul Thompson to ensure that it was Catfield who progressed.

Peter Self, Catfield manager, was delighted with their victory, saying: ‘There were few footballing moves in the game, with both sides wary of each other however had we taken our chances we could have had the game wrapped up by half time. Gorleston played very well on the day but I think we deserved the win.2

When asked if there was anyone they would want to draw in the next round Self said: “We would like to avoid Kings Lynn Reserves as they will be a tough match but we will be happy with anyone else.”

Lastly there were four games which couldn’t be decided on the day and these will be replayed next week.
