THE Pub on the Shrubs Yarmouth Saturday League’s First Division clubs had their first ventures into the Norfolk Junior cup last week and it was quite a successful day as only one club departed the competition.

Performance of the day has to go to Albion Tramway who travelled to Aldiss Park to face Dereham Reserves.

The Yarmouth side travelled as underdogs to many but came away with a superb 2-1 win to advance to round two for an away tie against fellow league side MK Shrubs at Burgh Castle. MK had a bye into round two.

Another side who produced a terrific performance was Bohemians, who made up for last season’s lame exit at Lynn Napier by winning 4-2 against Wymondham Reserves. They will face Swaffham Reserves at home .

Norfolk Primary Cup winners Haven Bridge United remain unbeaten in county competitions after they defeated Worstead 3-0 in a one-sided affair. The fourth side to make it through was Caister Roma in extraordinary circumstances after they fell 3-1 behind at Ludham. However they battled back for 4-4 after extra time but eventually the visitors stepped up their game and made it through 7-4. The league however did lose South yarmouth from the competition but they put up a superb performance and can take great heart.

The only game in Division One saw two teams with 100 per cent records meet as Catfield faced MK Shrubs at Ormesby. The visitors clearly stronger with Gorleston Reserves not having a game gave it their all and came away with a 2-2 draw.

In Division Two Wanderers are the early pacesetters after facing Peelers away. With the scores level at half time the visitors took total control scoring seven times without reply. Filby and Runham meanwhile got their first points of the season with a thrilling 5-4 win at home to Prostar Windows.

Caister United had a 1-0 win at home to MK Shrubs Reserves who many saw as favourites for the Division Two title. It was a battle of new clubs on the Beaco as Caister Roma Reserves gained three points in a tight, enjoyable contest with Grosvenor Casino.

This week sees our Division Two clubs take to the county stage in the Primary Cup first round. Clubs are reminded it’s 2.30pm kick-off in this cup.

Clubs must let Norfolk FA and the league know of the score within one hour of the game finishing. Result cards to be sent to Norfolk FA only. The league wishes all our clubs the best of luck.

In Division One Albion Tramway take on MK Shrubs, South Yarmouth face GY International and Haven Bridge United take on Caister Roma. The league cup group stage gets under way as Bohemians face Catfield at New Road. All these games are 2pm kick-off – Ryan Starkey.
