Humpty Dumpty, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men plus 36 Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) turned out to compete in one of the most popular 10k road races at the weekend.

The sun shone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Humpty Dumpty 10k. With 560 recorded finishers it was great to see four GYRR in the top 100 – Andrew Dormer, Myles Duffield, Gary Pillar and Stephen Andrews. Andrew Dormer was elated with his time of 42.01. He has recently moved into the 50-54 age group and his time earned him the club’s gold standard for this distance. In addition he also claimed his first ever race trophy.

Long-standing member Paul Westgate ran his fastest 10k in years, a superb time of 46.13. Many new members took part on this undulating course which started and finished at Freethorpe Village Hall – Bridget Inyang, Rachel Ollett, Jim Brown, Naomi Hills, Debbie Adams and Debbie Brown all completed their first race for the club. Taking PBs in hot conditions were Rob Bailey, Linda Drew and Vikki Brownsell.

To add to the success of the day there were also six age group awards for the team. John Bone and Pauline Leeves both tookfirst in their respective age groups. Third-place awards went to Andrew Dormer, Anna Coulborn, Carole Spong and Penny Studley.

Finishers were rewarded with a special 10-year anniversary quality medal and T-shirt. The event, hosted by Great Yarmouth & District Athletics Club, was a roaring success. It was also the seventh race in the Grand Prix series with many GYRR members featuring high up in the rankings.
