Acle United return home empty handed after battling display

Acle United returned from Trafford Park with no points to show for their efforts as the Yachtsmen sealed the deal in injury time with a second goal.
In an end to end encounter Clarke volleyed the home side in front early in the second half and although Acle pressed the Wroxham defence in the final 15 minutes they could not find the net and with everyone committed forward Wilkinson galloped clear to seal the points.
Manager Robert Taylor was delighted to name former skipper and four-time Sterry Cup winning captain Daniel Foreman at the heart of the defence, although four call-offs hardly helped the cause.
Both teams had a good number of chances in the first half as Wroxham shaved the post from a free-kick outside the box and a Forder corner was punched off the goal line by the home keeper.
The talking point of the first half was when Garner was the victim of a poor challenge from Rogers who was perhaps lucky to escape with a yellow card.
Forder was holding the ball up well and played in Tooley but his shot was blasted over. So, a fairly even first half saw the teams turn around goalless with all to play for in the second half.
Marcus Wilkerson looked to be dangerous with his pace and skill, but Scott Foreman was more than equal to the task as he dived to his right.
Good work by Bibby saw Peacock put through but his shot was easily gathered by the Yachtsmen’s keeper. United must surely have felt unlucky when Daniel Foreman powered his header goalward from another corner, but with the keeper beaten the ball was headed off the line.
Foreman was bringing a different dimension to the Acle cause, as he played in a number of crosses, one of which found Tooley in space, but he had strayed offside.
The game finished with Acle pressing for an equaliser, before Wilkinson wrapped matters up in injury time as the home side recorded a rather flattering 2-0 win.

Tomorrow, Acle host fourth from bottom St Andrews at Bridewell Lane, looking to close the gap on the teams directly above them, kick-off 2pm.
