MARTHAM BOWLS CLUB goes from strength to strength as it continues to produce great results, the highlight their 90-60 shots win over Lakeside in the semi-finals of the County Cup last week. The final will be played against Cawston A at Mundesley Haig on August 20.

Following a resounding win against Halvergate Top Green in the final of the Donny Pearce Cup on Saturday, captain David Nichols had a good week, and with Martham A still very much in the running for top spot in Division One, his team has everything to play for. It has also been a good year for Gary Hewitt in his second season at Martham, and his first with Norfolk's Newton team, which will be competing for the national trophy at Skegness later this month.

Captain Jane Watson and the ladies' team clinched the runners-up spot in the Yarmouth League with a 5-1 win against Blofield Heath. And Bing Smith and Debra Nicholson were runners-up in the Yarmouth Ladies' Pairs, losing on Saturday to an in-form Lillian Barber and Jennifer Hudson.

Martham's future looks good, as the junior club gains in numbers and ability, thanks to the dedication of the club coaches, headed by Jane Rush and Sue Moore. Three of their number, Dan Mills, Rosie Rush and Jessica Ward, have gained valuable experience bowling with Norfolk Under-25s and are the proof that bowls is a sport for all ages.
