Acle Indoor Bowls Club returned to County League action at Diss who were third in the league and two games in hand over Acle Ladies A.

Molly Auld, Barbara Meeks and Melanie Haylett looked a formidable trio up against international Carol Baker and were 9-3 up at seven ends 12-8 at 12 and won 15-10.

Joy Pearson, Pat Dickinson and Geraldine Reeve were 6-3 up at seven, scored a four on the ninth and won 11-6. Marion Himpleman's block were level at seven each after eight ends, dropped a four on the 11th and lost 11-18. Jean Cossey's block looked in control going 5-1 up at five ends, scored a four on the ninth to go 10-3 up, but then dropped 17 shots in five ends to lose 10-20.

Result 47-54 (2-6), however Acle Ladies A remain top of the league, 13½ points ahead of Diss who have two games in hand.

At home to Pinewood B, who were second in the league, Acle Men's C needed to win to keep ahead of Dereham.

Twelve-year-old Daniel Seabourne, Alan Kendal, Adrian Smith and Ashley Smith, all playing well, were 13-7 up at 11 ends but dropped a five on the 12th. This hiccup was quickly cured with some excellent bowling as they won 28-13.

Keith Owen, Jim Cole, Ray Smith and Mick Askham were 3-6 down at eight ends, scored a five, and by 13 ends it was 10 each. But a four on the 14th followed by a five on the 15th changed the game and they went on to win 21-18.

Russell Thurtle, Bert West, Bill Downie and Pat Beales were 10-4 up after nine ends but 11 each at 13, 15 each at 19, but some good bowls by both Bill and Pat on the 20th ensured an 18-17 win. Brian Grint's rink found a short jack difficult and were 0-10 down after three ends and 4-21 after 11. The game looked lost but they fought back and were 16-24 at 18 ends, and finished 18-28.

Result 85-76 (6-1). After 10 ends Acle were 10 shots adrift but good bowling by all four rinks changed the game around.

Great Yarmouth IBC

IN the County League game against Shotford B, the Great Yarmouth Ladies Blues lost by only four shots, one block won and one drew making it making it 1½ league points to the Blues and 6½ to Shotford, the total score being 5-2.

J Carter, P George and M Clark made a slow start but at eight ends they were 6-6. They lost four shots on the next two ends 6-10, and then took six shots on the following three ends to nil against, making it a win of 12-10.

H Farrow, C Jesty and M Surplice were trailing all the way through a low-scoring game and were 7-9 down at nine ends, but then scored four more shots to two against on the last three ends to draw 11-11.

V Punchard, C Johnson and M Symonds were 6-9 down at eight ends, then lost a six on the next end but gained five shots on the 10th end 11-15. On the last four they scored four shots each making it a loss for the Blues of 15-19.

W Ellison, M Oram and T Lewis level at seven 5-5 lost the next end, 5-6 and won the next 6-6, then took four more shots to six against and lost the game 10-12.

Browston Bowls Club

The men's A team took five and a half points from their 87-70 away win at Wymondham Dell, giving them a narrow lead at the top of Division Two.

D Pratt, E McDonald, V Bloom and J Malcolm 10-13 down at halfway, but then scored 18 shots on the next nine ends to one shot on the final end, winning 28-14. V Moore, T Gowen, P Aldis and M French, 14 all on the 11th end, allowed only four singles to their 14 shots over the finals ends, winning 28-18.

P Morris, R Barrett, A Hills and S Shaw drew 18-18 and P Hurren's block went down 13-20.

The men's C team at home to Hunstanton B were in a close game that rested on the results of the final ends of all four blocks.

With the score standing at 75-76 to Hunstanton, M Parker, J Prest, R Hardy and A Hunter, 15-20 down, picked up two shots 17-20 (77-76). C Posner, B Gooch, D Matthews, and E Barnes 16-24 picked up two shots 18-24 (79-76). C Butcher, M King, L Diggines, and King at 20-17 dropped four shots 20-21 (79-80). M Marshall P Tyrell, I Buck and S Hopwood at 24-15 picked up the vital four shots to win 28-15 (83-80) to take the four points.
