At home to Bowling Club, Acle Ladies A wanted another win, but six players were in the county play-offs and three others unavailable. But this is a strong squad and all can be brilliant on their day.

Margaret Arnold, Ros Myhill and Marie Barker took a 6-0 lead and by 10 ends were 12-6 up. They finished 16-7 winners. Jennifer Hudson, Rebecca Ward and Barbara Meeks were four each at five ends and six each at eight, then scored seven shots in two ends, before going on to win 15-8. Sue Batchelor's block were three each at five ends, seven each at nine and in a nerve-racking finale lost 9-10. Jean Cossey's block were 1-9 down after six ends, came back to 5-10 at 10 ends, but lost 6-14.

Result: 46-40 (6-2 points) to stay top.

The Ladies' B team travelled to Diss. Pam Symes, Edna Land and Anne Drury at five ends were 6-1 up and by 10 ends it was 9-4, and they went on to win 15-5, dropping shots on only four ends. Rose Yaxley's block were five each at six ends, then 8-6 up at 10, but you always need that touch of luck and lost 8-17. Dawn Horne's block were four each at four ends but 4-13 at eight. They won the next three ends for 7-13, but finished 8-17. Shirley Genery's block were two each at four ends, 7-9 at 10, but lost 7-14. Result: 38-53(1-7).

Norfolk's hopes were dealt a double blow in Swansea last Friday, when Acle's Tim Stone and Fakenham Gallow's Mervyn King were denied places in the semi-finals of the World Bowls Tour Welsh International Open.

Both played really well in the quarter-finals, only to be knocked out as Nottingham's Simon Skelton defeated King 9-7, 6-9, 2-0, and Aussie Brett Wilkie beat Stone 10-4, 8-4.

Great Yarmouth Ladies

The Ladies' Reds, at home to North Walsham, with only seven shots between them, won 47-40, winning on three out of four rinks for six league points.

C King, L Westgate P Ellis, 7-2 at six ends, lost the next four, 7-8, won seven more shots to two against to win 14-10.

G Sewell, M Nichols, A Ewells were 7-7 at eight ends, won four shots over the next three for 11-7, then lost five shots on the next two ends and the game was lost11-12. B Payne, B Phillips, G Swanston were top rink, ahead all through and winning eight of the 13 ends played. winning 16-6. M Lynes, M O'Brien and M Lynes struggled with their game and lost 6-12.

Playing away at Roundwood the Blues had a very tight game, eight shots down overall at 10 ends they pulled back to win by four shots 48-44 and took six league points.

M Clark, P George and J Barber were 5-5 at five ends and by nine ends were 9-6 ahead and went on to win six more shots to four to take the game 15-10.

M Surplice, C Prescott, T Lewis were top rink, 4-5 down at six ends they went on to win 15 more shots to five and won the game 19-10. W Ellison, M Oram, J Saunders at eight ends were 3-8 down, and lost the game 7-15. J Carter, B Taylor, J Rose were 6-6 at eight ends, and only managed one more shot to two against to lose 7-9.

Browston Bowls Club

The Ladies' A team played two games this week and had good results from both. At Wymondham Dell, with good wins by Angela Kher 26-6 and Ilene Hadden 18-10, six points were scored. At home to Lakeside Swans the maximum eight points came in their 119-24 win, top rink A Kher, June Petts and Pat Drinkall were 25-0 at the fifth end, winning 46-1. Ilene Hadden, Mary Barrett and Maggie Spurway, 11-2 up at halfway, won 25-4. Barbara Cheverton 28-9 and June Butcher 20-10.

The Men's B team, playing at Roundwood, won 80-62 and took six points.

R Barrett, K Saward, B Drinkall and M Munro, with three fives in the first half went 21-3 up, and went on to win

26-18.

N Miller, M Marshall, M Harvey and J Allen trailed over the opening ends but a four and a five put them in front where they held the lead to win 23-14. P Tyrell, R Turner, C Posner and D Hancock 21-12.

The Men's A team won two points when they lost overall by six shots, 74-80 at home to Norfolk B.C A team.

P Hurren, E McDonald, R Kippen and G Obsen, 12-1 at the sixth, went six ends without scoring but won 23-12. T Gowen, K Leech, V Bloom and S Shaw, five all at the seventh, had a four and a five later on put them in a winning position 22-12.

In his last appearance in an under-16's tournament held at Pentney IBC, Thomas Critoph beat all opposition from Lincs, Suffolk and Norfolk to win the event.
