THE weather did nothing to help the runners in both the 20 and 10 mile races at Wymondham, where the town was filled with eager runners getting their miles in before the London Marathon.

Two Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club members braved the 20 miles, which must have been the hardest for many years with very strong headwinds for a large part of the course.

John England was pleased to return 3-03:51 in 140th place, with Sue Fraser having a great run just a minute behind in 3-04:56 in 145th slot. A fantastic run by both runners.

Six runners entered the 10 mile event with Chris Gay aggravating a muscle injury finishing in 1-18:24 in 77th place, followed by David Goodwin, recovering from a fall, who ran 1-22:15 in 103rd position.

First club lady home with another personal best by over five minutes was Elaine Haggerty, who obviously relished the windy weather. Her time was 1-45:40.

Maureen England finished in 1-50:33, closely followed by Karly Clegg, timed at 1-50:33.

Pat Brightman recorded her fastest time for many years finishing in 2-04:51 in 216th place.

A big thank you must go to all the marshals who stood out in the cold, windy conditions to encourage the runners and ensure their safety, well done to Wymondham AC.
