Despite the weather being atrocious the previous day, nine athletes turned up at the Colchester athletics meeting on Bank Holiday Monday, winning 14 medals and enjoying dry sunny weather.

Amy Dowsett started GYDAC's bid by coming second in the javelin with a throw of 13.16m, Soon afterwards she took part in U13's 800m, taking the lead early on and coming first with a time of 2:43.

In the 100m, excellent races were run by everyone. Amy Dowsett came third with a time of 15.2; then Lauren Peach in the U15s ran brilliantly to win with a time of 12.8. Polly Davies came first in the U17s in 12.8, and finally, for the women, Katie Barber ran well to get a time of 13.0 for second place.

Then it was the boys' turn to see how well they could do.

Mark Phillipson ran well in the U15s, coming fourth with a time of 12.5; Shane Atherton secured another first in the U17s with a time of 11.6 and Chris Peck came third in his race for the junior men.

Ben Johnson for the junior men won his race in 56 secs and he then followed that up with another first in the long jump, with a distance of 4.81m.

Polly Davies continued her successful day by also getting a first in the 300m with a time of 42.4.

GYDAC's excellent day was finished with the 200m, where the athletes

did brilliantly.

Lauren Peach got another first in 26.4, Katie Barber was first in the junior women with a time of 26.7, and Mark Phillipson ran an exciting race and gained a second with a time of 25.6.

Shane Atherton came equal second in 24 secs and Chris Peck gained a personal best in his race with a time of 24.9.

On a rather blustery and very wet Wednesday evening, three members of Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club ran the last of the Wroxham 5k series - whilst two others Pat and Dawn gave their support from under the umbrellas!

First home was Keelan Pywell running his first of these races and was pleased with his time of 18:30 considering the conditions, he also was the second Junior Man.

Catherine Lee completed the third of this series and yet again was the second Junior Lady, finishing in a time of 21:01.

Next home was Kevan Pywell in a time of 21:55. September will be a busy month for the Road Runners of GYDAC with the Wissey Half Marathon and Adidas 5K Women's Challenge on 5th, Lowestoft Scores on September 12 and Great North Run on September 19.
