On Sunday Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club travelled to Bury St Edmunds for their third fixture in the Anglian League against West Suffolk, Peterborough, Ipswich, Ryston and Breckland.

Great Yarmouth finished third, their best performance for a long time, and with a home match on August 21 they should see several sections reach the plate final.

The under-13 girls team stood second in the league and knew that a good victory would put them top of the table.

The 70m hurdles saw Amy Dowsett equalling her best time of 12.9s to win. Georgina Clarke then set a PB of 16.1 for 4th place in the B race. Natoya Rimmer put in great runs in the 100m & 200m, winning both races in 13.8s/28.9s, Casey Cork running in the B race 100/200 had two 2nd places in times of 14.6/31.3s.

In the long jump Chloe Long and Georgia Clarke both jumped 3.48m for 4th and 3rd places. Amy Dowsett in the 800m suffered a rare defeat and ran 2m 32.8s for 2nd place. Ella Wakeley volunteered for the B string, finishing in a very valuable 3rd place in 3m 11.1s.

Jasmine Kemp added a 2nd place in the shot (7.50m) with Erin Erwin 3rd in the B event with 4.99m. The discus saw Ella Wakely produce a good throw of 17.20m for 2nd place and Amy Dowsett threw 19.37 to win the javelin. Natoya Rimmer cleared 1.40m to finish 2nd in the high jump and Emily Curtis took 2nd place in the B event clearing 1.15m.

In the 1500m Erin Erwin and Amy Newton were 3rd (5m 53.9) and 1st (6m 12.6s) respectively. The relay team finished of a great day with a victory in 59.3s. The team won by 10 points which has put them on top of the table with one home match to go.

The inter-senior ladies’ group are also in with a good chance of making the final plate competition if they finish in the top eight.

Frankie Turner won the 80m hurdles in 13.3s. Katy Barber, doing the 100/200m sprint double, had two 3rd places in 13.2/27.5s, Amber Burton ran 13.6s to take 2nd place in the B race of the 100m. In the field Louisa Marshall in the hammer had another PB of 26.39m for 2nd place.

Catherine Lee in a fast 800m race earned a good third place with a PB of 2m 28.6s. Tamsin Desborough was 4th in the B race (3m 18.1s). Emma Barwick in the discus threw 30.75m for 2nd place with Tayla Burton throwing 19.98m for 3rd place in the B event.

Frankie Turner and Louisa Marshall had 3rd/2nd in the 300m with times of 47.1s/49.3s. Catherine Lee in the 1500m took 2nd place in 5m 11.5s. The team finished in a healthy 3rd place.

For the U17 boys Mark Phillipson had a good 100m taking 2nd place in 12.2s. In the 200m Tom Burgess (4th A race) and Mark Phillipson(1st B race) both ran 25.0s. In the 800m race Dominic Oliver just took first place in 2m 08.1s and Kyle Ella won the B race in 2m 11.9s.

Mark Phillipson had a good long jump 5.18 to take 2nd place. Dominic Oliver in the 1500m, despite running a fast time (4m 37.1), finished 3rd. Keelan Pywell running the B race again ran a good 4m 41.3 to take 1st place. Tom Burgess was involved in a very close finish in the 400m just beaten on the line for 2nd place with a time of 55.0s. The relay team finished 2nd in a time of 51.9s.

The team again finished 3rd with every chance of making the final.

The under 15 boys had some good individual results but were lacking in numbers. Dominic Burnham ran a great 100m, winning in a great time of 11.7s, his fastest-ever run, but was beaten in the 200m into 2nd place in a time of 24.5s. Josh Clark has been having some great runs over 800m and once again, against some good opposition he took 2nd place with a time of 2m 13.7s. Jay Turner ook 1st place with 28.49m in the javelin with Josh Clark winning the B event throwing 23.32m. The team finished in 5th place.

The jun/sen men were determined to make the final. Shane Atherton had a win in the 100m (11.60) and a 2nd in the 200m (23.8) his best times of the season. In the B race 100/200m Chris Peck finished 3rd/1st in times of 12.6/25.4s. Ben Johnson ran well for his 2nd place in the 400m (55.5s) with newcomer Craig Bean dramatically taking 2nd place on the line in a time of 65.4s.

Kevan Pywell and Paul Brown took on the 3000m and both finished in 4th place, with times of 12m 02.4/13m 26.1s. Mark Turner in the javelin threw 32.19m for 3rd place and James House jumped 1.70m to take 2nd in the high jump. Andrew Baker was busy in the field events with his best result finishing 3rd in the B shot (6.20m). Wlth a 3rd place in the relay (52.2s) the team finished 3rd, an excellent result.

In the under 13 boys team, Connor Dobson had two good results in the 100/200m with times of 14.4/29.7s for two 2nd places. Newcomer Michael Cross in the 1500m did 5m 31.2s for 4th place.

Michael Cross also had a good high jump, finishing 2nd clearing 1.32m. Peter Cross, another newcomer, had a best result in the shot, a 3rd place(5.80m) and a 4th in the 200m in 33.1s. The team finished in 5th place.
