BROADLAND Rugby Club's end of season gentleman's dinner was held at the clubhouse in Great Yarmouth. This year's guest speaker was sports comic Brendan Healy.

Flanker Ed Dixon was the Broadland 1st XV Players' Player of the Year.

The young back row player has had an excellent all-round season since becoming a key member of the team on his return to the club last autumn. Dixon's playing ability is matched by his social capabilities and he is actively involved in all the club activities off the field.

First XV captain Tim Fenn presented front row forward Kahn Bilyard with the Captain's Player of the Year award.

Veteran Bilyard has been a regular member of the 1st XV front row for over a decade. Unusually for a front row player, Bilyard can often be found covering at wing or fullback and has uncanny skill at taking high kicks and running the ball back.

Broadland 2nd XV Players' Player of the Year was wing Ben Collings, who had a great year and as a result has spent the last month of the season firmly in the first team squad.

Second team captain Paul Tucker made his Player of the Year Tom Moore, who made the decision to learn to play in the front row at the start of the season and has developed into a solid forward.

Carol Riches and Margaret Atkins were jointly awarded the Clubman of the Year. They were honoured for the support they provided, ensuring that the clubhouse bar was open for all home fixtures.

Most Improved Young Player was awarded to Andy Hewitt. The 18-year-old forward started the season with the second XV, but a string of really good performances saw him pulled up to the 1st XV in mid season, where he has become an established member of the squad.

Brendan Healy ensured an entertaining evening as he reflected upon his experiences in life and in sport.

Informal sports session will be taking place for senior players on Wednesday evening at Cobholm playing fields 7-8.30pm. The senior teams return to pre-season training on the first Wednesday of July.

Sunday morning sessions for youth and minis (five to 17-year-olds) start on the first Sunday of September 10am-noon.
