Kingfisher Amateur Boxing Club in Great Yarmouth have had great success with all 20 of their junior boxers who took their preliminary ABA boxing awards.

The course teaches the basics of amateur boxing in eight different stages, preparing them for the sequential awards of standard, bronze, silver and gold.

In the course which ran over eight sessions, the candidates had to demonstrate stance, guard, balance, torso movement and basic footwork around the ring, moving in all directions.

Shadow boxing had the examiner looking for co-ordination of footwork and straight punching. Pad and bag work consisted of three one-minute rounds. Marks were also given for skills, fitness, self control, appearance and behaviour.

Boxers who have passed their Preliminary ABA Boxing Award are Samuel Martin, Jasmin Himpleman, Jacob Himpleman, Kiel Barber, Jason Thompson, Paul Errinton, Noel Hubbard, Jason Norton, Tom Michell, Jordon Huggins, Daniel Thompson, Daniel Kennedy, Kirsty Sedgwick, Aaron Burton, Dillen Parker, Jeremy Audsley, Billy Potter, Henry Potter and Curtis Demetriou.

The coaches were pleased with the skill and effort demonstrated during the whole course by the boxers and are looking forward to recognising their achievements at the presentation evening to be held on June 20 at Merlins in Great Yarmouth, starting at 7 for 7.30pm.
