Broadland-Great Yarmouth Rugby Club end of season summer ball and awards night was held at the clubhouse in Great Yarmouth last Friday.

For the second successive year second row Royce Chiddle received the 1st XV players' player of the year award.

Chiddle had another excellent season and was used to devastating effect as ball carrier, with the ability to break into open field.

1st XV captain Matt Beckett presented prop Shaun Tubby with the captain's player of the year award.

Tubby, playing in his first season with the club, started the season in the 2nd XV before establishing himself as the 1st XV, starting tight head in mid autumn.

Broadland 2nd XV players' player of the year was flanker Luke Moorehouse.

Moorehouse, playing in his first senior season, quickly made a name for himself through an exceptional level of fitness and tenacious tackling.

Towards the end of the season he progressed to appearing for the 1st XV.

Second team joint captains Phil Crane and Paul Abel awarded captain's player of the year to Tristan Barber.

Barber's hard-hitting tackling and overall commitment was a great asset to the club. The winger also had a number of 1st XV appearances during the season.

Husband and wife Russ and Pamela Clarke were awarded joint clubman of the year, through their dedicated work in the roles of secretary and treasurer. Both played a critical part in developing aspects of the club.

Most improved young player was awarded to versatile Ryan Gallie who started the season as the 1st XV tighthead prop before moving across to hooker, then on the back row and finally concluding the final months of the season as loose head prop.

The club also recognised the achievement of lock Andy Riches, who was presented with a commemorative tankard to celebrate his 20 seasons of playing rugby in Great Yarmouth.

Riches played most of his 20 years in the 1st XV and was also 1st XV captain from 2002-2005.

Armond Charpentier was also presented with a club shirt, as the talented fullback is returning to France at the end of the month.
