Great Yarmouth & District League

For the first time in six years the league will have a side playing in the Norfolk Primary Cup final, after Belton FC’s fabulous 3-1 win at Great Massingham.

Belton went into the game full of confidence after disposing of probable favourites Diss Town in the last round. Massingham are unbeaten in their own league but Belton were unnerved.

The home side took a 1-0 lead into half-time and this was probably their downfall as comments were made at half-time about the final.

Belton came out second half with added motivation and at the end of the game it was they who progressed into the showpiece county final as 3-1 winners.

They will face Hopton from the Lowestoft League in an east-coast derby final with the tie rumoured to be at Emerald Park. Traditionally it has always been held at Aldiss Park, Dereham.

However, the league are extremely proud of Belton and everyone connected wishes them the best of luck and hopefully will show their support in the final.

The result also kept alive Belton’s chances of winning four trophies this season.

The league lost five matches to waterlogged pitches due to rain on Friday night.

In the games that did go ahead, Bohemians scraped through to the semi-finals of the League Cup despite a 4-0 defeat at the hands of a rejuvenated Norfolk n Chance.

The defeat meant if Peelers could win by 10 clear goals they would progress instead. However, they did themselves proud as they overcame Feathers by an 8-1 scoreline, including six for Adam Secker.

The result was not enough to send them through but the team can be proud of the effort put in. Bohemians’ semi-final will be on March 12.

In the Burgess Cup, Caister Youth were confirmed as winners of group two after a fine 5-0 win over Martham A at Allendale. They will have a home semi-final on March 26 against either Belton or Prostar Windows.

MK United Reserves, meanwhile, went through without a ball being kicked after South Yarmouth lost at home to another rejuvenated side in Wellington.

The 9-2 scoreline put South Yarmouth out and it will be MK Reserves who will go to the Beaconsfield on March 19 to face Caister Community Centre for a place in the final.

Would all clubs please note if you are the home team, whether you are a village or council pitch team, and your game is called off, it is the responsibility of the home club to contact the referee, fixture secretary, visitors and Keith Greensides.

This is not being done in accordance with the rule book and fines will possibly be introduced from next season for this.

Please also note all kick-offs now revert to 2.30pm from tomorrow until the end of the season. However, clubs have been emailed regarding March 26. If you would like a 12.30pm kick-off please let the fixture secretary know as England take on Wales at 3pm.
