Belton’s valiant Carrow Road bid is ended in extra time

For the third time in three weeks Belton faced Scole for a place in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Junior Cup. After last weeks incredible match it was back to Scole for the replay. In a tight match Belton more than held their own against Anglian Combination opposition.
After 90 minutes the scores stood at 2-2 and so the tie went into extra time. However the opposition took total control running in this extra half hour finding the net five times to run out 7-2 winners and it is they who will face Reffley Royals for a place at Carrow Road.
The second semi final will see league representation as Catfield travel to face Harleston. Catfield will be confident of getting a result on February 18 and the league wishes them the best of luck with this. It was also quarter final day in the Wiltshire Cup as three of the four ties took place with the one game not played being Belton for obvious reasons. T
he tie of the day was on the Magdalen as Caister CC from division one took on division two side Haven Bridge United. The visitors took an early lead from Ricci Butler. However Caister were unlucky at the other end as they had several chances to equalise. Second half though was a different story as Haven Bridge fired three quick goals midway through the half to give themselves a cushion.
A late consolation was not enough for the home side as Haven Bridge made it three semi finals for the season. They have been drawn to face the winners of Belton or Catfield and this semi final will take place on the Beaconsfield on March 3. Caister Roma made it through to the semi-finals courtesy of a 3-1 win over Allendale rivals Caister United A as they bounced Back after two defeats. They face South Yarmouth tomorrow where a win will give them a Burgess Cup semi final place and eliminate South Yarmouth from the competition. Roma will face GY International on February 25 in the semi-finals after their last-minute goal ensured they defeated a stubbon Feathers 1-0 and avoid a potential cup shock.
In Division One there are new leaders after MK United took the points 2-0 at Albion (Gorleston). Two goals in the second half put Mick Saunders side top although their rivals have games in hand. GY Peelers meanwhile gained their first points of the season against 10-man Norfolk and Chance with a 7-0 win at Lynn Grove. The result though still leaves Peelers adrift although the gap has now been cut. The final game in the division saw Bohemians keep up there good recent record as they defeated GY United 3-2 at New Road.

In Division Two South Yarmouth gained the three points in a goal riot at Martham A. Matt Wallis for the second time this season scored double figures in a match. However despite this achievement a bigger one was also made as after 34 years of GYDFL action legendary goalkeeper Skip Garnham finally notched his first-ever goal as he despatched a penalty. Congratulations to him on breaking his league duck.
MK United Reserves kept the pressure up at the top as they defeated Prostar Windows 5-0 at Burgh Castle and give them momentum ahead of there Burgess Cup match with Feathers.

The league is inviting applications for the 2012/2013 season. Clubs or teams must be affiliated to either Norfolk or Suffolk FA for the new season and be based within a 12 mile radius from Great Yarmouth.
