Some Sunday cricket finally re-emerged as Belton travelled to Britannia Barracks to face Norwich Bystanders in only their second run out this season – and it’s June!

With a green wicket and the inevitable cloud cover, inserting the opposition was the order of the day and Belton skipper Adam Savoury, duly obliged having won the toss.

It soon became apparent that runs would be at a premium.

Wickets fell at regular intervals as all the Belton bowlers prospered in the friendly conditions.

Paul Hodds, in particular, benefited frrom some excellent catching in the deep as a succession of home batsmen tried to up the scoring rate.

It was left to George Savoury to end the proceedings with a stunning catch at full stretch, close in on the leg side from Hodds’ bowling as Bystanders struggled to 94 from 39 overs.

In reply, veteran opener Richard Ashling decided that attack would be the best form of defence.

He quickly amassed a valuable 24 to put the visitors well ahead of the required run rate.

Youngsters Savoury and Bracewell failed to provide the required support, but Adam Savoury, Harry Chanchalani and Chris Cropley kept the score board ticking over as a succession of Bystanders’ bowlers failed to find a significant breakthrough.

Thirty overs were required to knock off the runs, but Belton were never troubled.
