Country XV 53 Town XV 38

A good crowd gathered on Boxing day morning, as Broadland-Great Yarmouth Players took to the field for the Annual Boxing Day Club match. As always, the teams were divided with the players living in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, representing Town XV and players from the surrounding villages (and further afield) representing Country XV

Country have had a run of recent defeats having not won since 2007, and from the kick off it looked as if again Town were going to cruise to victory as they went two tries up, through Barry Trett and Nick Rose. Country came back through two scores from Joe Bensley to level the scores. Further scores from Mossie (Country) and Wilkes (Town) left Town leading by two points at the half.

Barry Trett powered over early in the second half to extend Towns lead, Followed by Town prop Mason crashing over. Country rallied well as Joe Bensley broke clear and went 70 yards to score. This opened the floodgates for country as Ryan Gallie, Sean Howley and Sam Noon all put in tries in quick succession. Ash Sullivan kept town in the games through a well worked try. But Country put the game beyond reach as Adam Towfighi broke clear 30 metres out to score and Joe Bensley concluded play with another great run culminating in his fourth try for country.
