Best-ever season for Bohemians Girls

AS can be seen from our back-page picture this week, Bohemians Girls football teams have achieved their most successful season ever with the U12s winning the league and cup in the NWGFL, the U16s league winners and the U14s league runners-up.

However it is the U15s in particular who have taken centre stage, losing only once

in 36 games and winning the other 35.

They were NSYL league and cup winners as well as U16 league winners. They also did the double in the NWGFL to give them a haul of five titles in the one season.

The girls were recognised both nationally and internationally for their achievements both on the field and off it - they were awarded the international Unicef Trophy at one of the world's largest youth tournaments in Spain last year which attracted 258 teams from around the globe.

Domestically, they were awarded the EDP/Active Sport Norfolk Team of the Year and received their prestigious award at the Forum in Norwich from local boxing legend John Thaxton.

More recently they received for the second time in four years the Bohemians' Irene Simm team of the year award to cap a truly remarkable season.

Their exploits has earned them praise from the length and breadth of the country and saw them the only team outside of the London area to be invited to Upton Park to play against the likes of West Ham, Tottenham, Crystal Palace where they finished runners-up in their youth tournament.

All the girls should be very proud of their achievements for the spirit and conduct they display and the team now looks forward to returning to Spain in just over a week's time as they look to go one better when last year they reached the semi-finals of the Donosti Cup.

The girls' competition will see teams participating from USA, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, France, Venezeula, Spain and Zambia and the girls are all looking forward to the cultural experiences and again will be the only team from England.
