On Saturday at Bury in the Suffolk Winter League against tough opposition Great Yarmouth finished fifth.

With a shortage of open swimmers this was an uphill battle, but with good team spirit they acquitted themselves well and 15 personal best times were recorded.

Jack Utting won the 11/under backstroke, with a third place in the freestyle. Issac Kirby, swimming way above his age group, came third in the breastroke. James Applegate fought hard against older opposition to gain third places in the breastroke and freestyle, both in pbs.

In the 15/under Callum McCollgan and Ben Johnson were both pushed into second places in backstroke and breastroke.

Callum missed breaking the minute for 100m freestyle by 0.54 of a second when coming third.

In the girls 11/under Xenia McCollgan came second in the backstroke with Rebecca Kemp gaining a third place in the breastroke. In the 13/under Olivia Smith and Zoe Prettyman both had to fight hard to gain second places in the butterfly and breastroke.

The 15/under saw Shanise Webster swim with determination to gain a second place in the breastroke. Charlotte Smith gave her good support with a third place in the backstroke.

In the open age group Laura Harris, a tiny figure on the starting block, gave a creditable performance to finish third in the breaststroke.
