THE Humpty Dumpty 10K was the inaugural road race by Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club and sponsored by the Humpty Dumpty Brewery, Reedham and Pettitts Animal Adventure Park.

The race headquarters and start/finish point was at Reedham Village Hall. The race set around the picturesque villages of Reedham, Limpenhoe and Freethorpe, a scenic rural undulating course proved to be challenging for some of the runners who always believe Norfolk to be flat.

An excellent entry of 238 runners saw many coming from longer distances like London, Corby, Sheffield and Nottingham.

The winner, Carl Prewer from Lowestoft Road Runners, was slightly held up along the course by an impeding tractor but was still pleased with his time of 34:15.

The ladies winner, Dena Parfitt from North Norfolk Beach Runners (41:11), recovering from injury and her 2-58 London Marathon, found the course tougher than expected.

Norwich Road Runners had a clean sweep of all the team prizes, male and female senior and masters categories, 216 finishers of which 50 percent were unattached runners. Each finisher was presented with a tumbler engraved with the Humpty Dumpty logo and a voucher for Pettitts.
