Winterton travelled to Drayton, and despite some inclement weather, recorded an emphatic eight-wicket win in Norfolk League Division Two.

Wes Noble-Parker, acting captain in the absence of Kevin Percival, lost the toss and surprisingly Drayton decided to bat first on a wet wicket.

Ben Utting and Richard Larner opened the bowling and exerted an early stranglehold.

Drayton crept along at a rate of just over one an over and lost Wright lbw to Larner for seven with the score on 10.

Hawes joined Woods and he looked to play shots from the start, being strong through cover and square.

Woods looked to try and follow suit with some rustic shots through the leg side. However, neither batsman was able to dominate the bowling, although adding 53 runs in 16 overs.

Tom Whichelow had replaced the miserly Utting, and Larner, who had bowled his 12 overs for an equally frugal 32 runs, was replaced by Charles Lockhart, making his first appearance of the season.

Lockhart's first ball saw Hawes (28) edge the ball behind, where Noble-Parker took a good catch to his left. Eggett joined Woods and he tried to pressure the field by taking short singles where he could.

A short rain delay saw Winterton lose concentration, and on returning to the field, there followed a period of sloppy cricket and Woods benefited to take his score up to 50.

However, with the score on 112, Whichelow, continuing his good form of the season, managed to get one through the defence to clean bowl Woods. Drayton looked set to post a challenging total in the region of

160-170, but there then followed a dramatic collapse. At 122, Eggett, who was still trying to pinch singles, was run out after some athletic work from Liam Boylan.

The latter and Tom Roper then came on to bowl in a double bowling change and the pair ripped out the rest of the batting. Both men got movement in the air and off the pitch and in 3.4 overs took five wickets for 14 runs - all clean bowled. Boylan, in his first bowl of the season, ended with 3-6 in 1.4 overs and Roper 2-8 in two overs. Drayton had slumped to 131 all out.

Winterton set about their task with a positive frame of mind and Bryn Clarke and Wes Noble-Parker added 28 in nine overs, with Noble-Parker timing the ball well. Clarke was then caught by a leaping Reeve for nine.

Geoff Roper joined his captain and with Noble-Parker in positive form, initially let him have a larger proportion of the strike. The two men did not let the bowlers get on top and 44 runs were added in the next 12 overs to keep Winterton as favourites to win.

Noble-Parker was playing a captain's innings with his usual array of leg-side shots, interspersed with some good cover drives and was looking to move onto a deserved 50 when Foreman managed to get the ball to jag back sharply to clean bowl him for 46.

Roper began to play more positively and seven of his next nine scoring shots were boundaries.

Martin Witheridge then also played an entertaining cameo innings of 29 not out, 26 of which were scored

in boundaries (three sixes and two fours), and mostly straight back over the bowler.

Witheridge scored the winning runs with a six and Roper remained unbeaten at the other end for a solid 41no, for a comprehensive victory.
