Ten members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners took part in a big field of 119 at Gorleston Parkrun on Saturday.

As the esteemed leader was away on a running course, the start was ably managed by Jim on a cool and breezy Gorleston morning.

Results: 14 Matthew Sutton 21:13 (Gentle stroll before his 50k run Sunday!), 40 Mike Dale 23:55, 57 Paul Westgate 25:13, 59 Pauline Westgate 25:20, 64 Dave Girling 25:56, 80 John “Birthday boy” Bound 28:15, 90 Dianne Crosby 29:55, 91 Paul Spandler 29:56, 92 Peter Spandler 29:56, 93 Bob Arnell 30:06

John Bounds, suitably dressed to mark his 65th birthday, ran another PB on the Park Run course.

London Ultramarathon 50k is the ideal step-up from marathon to ultra marathon for anybody wanting to test themselves at the next level. London’s Capital Ring provides a wonderful waymarked route which is easy to follow and can be run at marathon pace. Matthew Sutton took on the challenge and finished in 5-20 as he managed to get lost three times and ran 37 miles instead of the somewhat shorter, correct distance of only 31 miles. Well done Matthew.

n Soon the club will be holding their annual 5 mile race series along Great Yarmouth Seafront. The events take place on Wednesday April 25 and May 9 and 23 starting at 7.15pm. The race venue is the Marina Centre. The event is for all abilities so if you fancy the challenge of a 5 mile race visit the club website at www.gyrr.co.uk.
