LAST Sunday's 10-mile race, based at the Hethel Engineering facility and organised by Wymondham AC, attracted some 160 competitors, among them six of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners. Taking place quite soon after the Dereham 10-miler, which was also the county championships for the distance, the event still attracted a good field and there were some fine performances.

Not racing so much at the moment, but still putting in some fine runs when he does, was first clubman home Richard Blake. He was nearly four minutes ahead of Stephen Etherington with Paul Evans in close attendance.

Making up the male contingent was Jim Spong, thoroughly enjoying the outing. Leading the way home for the ladies was Kate Evans, with Denise Etherington also making a big impression in the race.

The previous Friday, Chris Harbord was at Kirton near Ipswich for the third race in the popular Friday Five series. He enjoyed the conditions, the camaraderie and his own performance, recording a time which was his best for quite some time.

Hethel Engineering Wymondham 10k: 1 Richard Blake 1-05:22 (2nd O55), 2 Stephen Etherington 1-09:18, 3 Paul Evans 1-09:42, 4 Kate Evans 1-33:48, 5 Jim Spong 1-52:16, 6 Denise Etherington 1-55:49.

Kirton Five: Chris Harbord 49:00.
