TOMORROW (Saturday)sees Great Yarmouth Town and Gorleston in FA Vase second qualifying round action.
The Bloaters travel to newly-formed King’s Lynn Town who sit top of the United Counties League, and Town will certainly be in for a tough encounter – as they found when they visited the Walks in pre-season, succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.
Manager Paul Tong said: “It will be a good experience for the boys to play on such a lovely pitch with the opportunity to play in front of a good crowd.”
Gorleston will be hoping to make further progress at Emerald Park (kick-off 3pm).
Following last week’s extra-time victory over Ely City, the Greens will be up against Daventry United, who currently lie eighth in the United Counties Premier League.
In the first qualifying round of the Vase, Daventry won 1-0 at March Town United.
They also made progress in the FA Cup by winning 2-1 at Diss, before bowing out in the next round at Long Buckby.
Daventry will be looking to bounce back from a 6-1 league defeat at Lynn last week.
Yarmouth boss Paul Tong said how proud he was of his side this week.
“I have nothing but praise for the lads, their attitude and commitment is second to none.
“It’s been a rollercoaster with conceding 14 goals in five home games, whereas we only conceded 28 in the whole of last season.
“It just goes to show what a great achievement last season was and that the Premier Division provides a tougher test on a regular basis.”
He also looked forward to the future of the club.
“The youth system is paying dividends and we’re also looking to bring on some competition from the reserves.”
He also was glad to see the attendances rise so far this season, without a derby to look forward to this campaign.
“Hopefully Gorleston will soon regain their Premier status before too long – providing of course that we maintain ours.”
