GREAT Yarmouth Town have a rare home game tomorrow when they play the return with Thetford Town (Wellesley, 3pm) having drawn 2-2 at Mundford Road in August after leading 2-0.

The match is to be sponsored by Haines Watts Chartered Accountants, who have opened up a new office in Regent Street, Yarmouth and also have offices in Thetford, writes Gerry Brown.

The Reserves beat Reepham Town 2-1 with goals from Darren Patterson and Mark Thompson and moved up to sixth place in Anglian Combination Division Two.

Tomorrow they are at Downham Town Reserves (3) who have lost all of their three games so far.

The Youth U18s next Wednesday repeat their recent visit to Emerald Park to take on Gorleston Youth in the Ridgeons Youth Cup (7.45), hoping also to repeat their success there of last week.

There will be a service for Chris Musk, who passed away last week, at Gorleston Crematorium next Wednesday at 1.20pm. All his many friends are invited to attend the service and afterwards at Legends Bar. Flowers or donations are welcome - flowers to Brundish and donations c/o Brian Smith at the Football Club.

Dersingham 0, Great Yarmouth Town 3

Three goals of contrasting nature saw the Bloaters safely through to the last 16 of the Norfolk Senior Cup on Saturday. Roach before the break, then Bartley and Lamb in the second half ensured there would be no embarrassing exit to an Anglian Combination side, as happened last year.

Dersingham, new opponents for Yarmouth and also playing their first-ever match against a Ridgeons League side, proved doughty opposition on a relatively small pitch. The Bloaters had to defend for long periods, but their class in the vital matter of finishing shone through. Although the home side had plenty of possession, they did not really extend Elliot Pride in Yarmouth's goal.

Liam Bartley replaced Chris Squire in the starting line-up which was otherwise the same as started against Fakenham in midweek. Squire was on the bench alongside Michael Hilton, fresh back from holiday.

Dersingham went at Yarmouth from the off but Ollie Savage at left back had an impressive game, and after two of his centres went unconverted his work was rewarded in the 20th minute when Stewart Roach got a deft touch with his head to score off the back post.

Roach also featured with his long throws into the home box and Adam Sullivan twice went close as the rain blew down to the Dersingham end.

As Yarmouth came more into the game, Sullivan won a corner and then Lamb went close before half-time when he returned a half-cleared Scott Woodcock free-kick.

Gareth Palmer was substituted at half-time as a precautionary measure against a suspected hamstring problem, Squire coming on.

Dersingham started off like a train again in the second half but Yarmouth soon sent them off the rails with a second goal after 58 minutes.

Good work by Sullivan paved the way for Bartley to claim his first goal of the season, a delicate chip that floated into the far corner past the advancing Adam Daniels. The game was effectively up for Dersingham then though Pride had to get down to a good effort by home captain Gary English and a free-kick from Ricky Toll that the keeper pushed round for a corner.

José Vide, on for Woodcock, worked hard in midfield showing tantalising flashes of his mercurial ability and laid on the pass for the third goal in the fifth minute of added time, Lamb taking the ball on a couple of strides before unleashing a shot from 20 yards.

“We did what we had to do,” said a relieved but happy Paul Tong afterwards. The draw for the next round takes place tonight on Radio Norfolk, 6.30pm.
