Great Yarmouth, who had been experiencing a dip in form recently after a flying start to the season, got back on track with a goal bonanza against Swaffham in Ridgeons Division One.

Yarmouth's 8-0 win helped consolidate their second place position ahead of FC Clacton who slipped up at Diss Town losing 2-0 last weekend, although the Essex side did get back on track with a midweek win.

Yarmouth currently have a four-point advantage over Clacton, who have two games in hand on the Bloaters, heading into their next game which is a home clash against Godmanchester Rovers tomorrow at the Wellesley (kick-off 3pm), while the reserves travel to Walsham-le-Willows.

Gt Yarmouth 8, Swaffham Town 0

It was a disappointing day for Swaffham who were expected to give their hosts a tough game off the back of a fine win over Godmanchester in midweek but despite quite an even start, 2-0 at half-time became eight by the final whistle.

Jake Reed scored four goals, sub Scott Woodcock twice with the other goals from another sub Fernando Vide and Stewart Roach.

Bloaters' boss Paul Tong was understandably happy in his side's upturn in fortunes.

“It will have helped our goal difference,” he laughed. “The Swaffham keeper made an excellent save from a Martin McGee penalty and a number of other saves too.

“Young Ross Catchpole made his debut from the U18s due to injuries and unavailability and was outstanding in centre midfield.

“It's a daunting task coming into a first team but he looked as if he had been there all his life, that's a plus.

“It's a good squad. We have the ability, it's just about that belief. I'm sure the boys will go on and achieve our aim - to finish in the top three.”

Yarmouth have two home games on in a row - Godmanchester then Cornard.

Tong was pleased that the recent goalscoring problems have been addressed: “I was glad that the players answered my question.

“Even at half-time at 2-0 I mentioned to the players that they were still were not putting their chances away - and they well and truly put me in my place.”

Meanwhile, it has also been an excellent week for Yarmouth's neighbours and Ridgeons rivals Gorleston who have also had that winning feeling.
