Great Yarmouth Town were in desperate need of a positive result on Tuesday against the side that failed to show earlier in the season after a players’ revolt - and duly got it as they recorded an emphatic win.

The Bloaters should have been ahead early on when Lee Roots had a clear sight of goal but chose to pick out Aaron Sanders rather than have a shot himself and the effort was saved.

Forbes was then sent through by a good ball by Davis but, with only the keeper to beat, he dragged his effort wide.

More chances came and went before Ben Lewis’ perfectly weighted cross found Forbes unmarked and he steered his header past Pearson to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Forbes and Sanders then wasnted opportunities to put the game out of sight and the Bloaters only had a one goal lead at the break.

With the second half barely 10 minutes old, on-loan signing Lewis picked up the ball in the Fakenham half and drove at the heart of the defence before crashing his shot into the bottom corner for a brilliant individual goal. Hagan then came on for leading scorer Sanders and the youngster proved his worth with a skilful and mature performance.

The game was effectively over on the hour mark as Davis’ corner was headed in at the near post by Forbes to put the hosts three up. Sam Applegate came on to replace Savage and almost immediately the home side had increased their lead. A long, low clearance by Whatmough caught the visitors’ defence napping and Lee Roots stole in to finish well and make it four for the home side.

“We dominated the game from start to finish and could easily have been 5-0 up at half-time,” said joint-manager Adam Mason. “Sometimes when they don’t go in you wonder if it’s not your night, so we were pleased the scoreline in the end, it reflected our dominance. We needed that, we can now go into Saturday’s game with renewed confidence.”

Gambas man-of-the-match: Ben Lewis.

Before the game striker Mitch Forbes received an award for 250 appearances for the Bloaters, which he made at Stanway on Saturday.
