Great Yarmouth Town bounced back in style after their FA Cup exit with a 3-1 home league win over Walsham-le-Willows.

Goalkeeper Josh Glover was unavailable and 16-year-old Connor Milligan made his first team debut. Sean Perfect returned to the starting line-up to replace the injured Vadim Costandachi as the home side reverted to a more traditional formation. Mitch Forbes and Lee Roots returned to the squad to join Connor Doddington and Charlie McAra on a strong-looking bench.

Milligan was called into early action to clear a long ball that bypassed the home defence.

The early exchanges were scrappy and the best move of the half saw Robin Andersen play in Haydn Davis, whose effort was blocked.

Davis had another chance as he danced through the visitors’ defence but his wayward pass halted the attack when perhaps he should have created an attempt.

The game was settled in a nine-minute spell either side of half-time. Walsham struck first as a fine looping effort from Ryan Clarke found the corner of the net. But the lead didn’t last long – a minute later skipper Andersen found Aaron Sanders in a wide position and he stepped inside to drill a powerful right foot drive into the far corner of the net.

After a rousing half-time team talk the Bloaters came out with renewed enthusiasm and it took only three minutes for them to take the lead when a Davis corner was headed home by Andersen at the back post.

Three minutes later some more enterprising play by Davis found Perfect and his thunderous drive cannoned back off the bar into the path of Joel Glover, who made no mistake to make it 3-1.

Joint manager Martyn Sinclair said: “We were disappointed at half-time even though we managed to pull level. We felt we were not at our best, despite creating a few chances. We looked sluggish but that six-minute spell after half-time was crucial. We kept the ball better in the second half once they had to come out and find a way back into the game. Really pleased with some of the performances tonight, that is a good win against a team that has been going well.”

Yarmouth: Milligan, Palmer, Andersen, Bartram, Ager, Howell, Perfect, Applegate, Glover, Sanders, Davis. Subs: McAra, Roots, Forbes, Doddington, Bond. Man Of The Match: Applegate. Att: 103.
