THE season is boiling up to its most exciting conclusion for years at the Wellesley, with all four Great Yarmouth Town teams in the running for honours of one kind or another.

The first team are chasing down third place in the Ridgeons First Division, the Reserves and Youths are still both in the running for their respective league titles and the U18s are also awaiting their Ridgeons Youth Cup quarter-final, writes Gerry Brown.

The new U9 side of Wayne Hunter is chasing a treble of league, League Cup

and Suffolk and Ipswich Open Cup.

The seniors have most to do, and of the top teams have yet to face two of those above them - Brantham Athletic and Halstead Town - while they still have to visit always-difficult FC Clacton, with Gorleston and Debenham both yet to visit the Wellesley.

The game at Brantham takes place tomorrow (3pm) with three points desperately needed to keep up with the leading pack.

Following five straight wins, Brantham have hit a dip in fortunes with three successive defeats, 2-1 at Hadleigh (as befell Yarmouth), 4-1 at Cornard and 2-0 at home to Halstead last week. A win is thus vital for both teams.

Brantham are two points ahead of Yarmouth from two games more, with a slightly better goal difference.

The Reserves came away from Fakenham with a 3-2 success over the Ghosts Reserves.

After taking a three-goal lead (Miller, Allen, Crux) they allowed the hosts back in with two goals, although the second was not scored until the final minute.

It was a tale of missed chances against the second-bottom team with the worst goal difference in the division.

This week, the Reserves take on Anglian Combination Division Two bottom side Downham Town Reserves at the Wellesley (2.30pm) having achieved a 3-2 result in west Norfolk.

The U18s pulled off a magnificent 4-2 win at previously 100 per cent North Walsham.

Next week they have two games - the first of the Monday night fixtures with the visit of Bungay Town (7.45pm) is followed by Cromer away on Thursday (7.45pm).
