THIS looked likely to be a fairly even contest as both teams were level on points with Thetford one place above the Bloaters on goal difference. However, Thetford handed Yarmouth a football lesson.

For the first eight minutes honours were fairly even with both teams sharing possession. That was probably as good as it got for Yarmouth as Thetford dominated the rest of the game.

Their first goal came on eight minutes when a long ball down the left looked to be well covered. However, Karl Pask - with a sudden turn of pace - cut inside and squeezed the ball past an unlucky Elliot in the Yarmouth goal.

From the kick-off, Yarmouth went straight up the other end and Nick Crawley tested Hulyer in the Thetford goal.

Thetford continued to press Yarmouth, but were undone by some stout defending which at times was desperate but effective. On 15 minutes Yarmouth created a rare chance when Sewell and Crawley combined well down the right, with the hard-working Crawley going close to equalising.

With 25 minutes gone a Thetford free-kick went close. Thompson for Yarmouth tried to lob Hulyer in the Thetford goal but the shot was high and wide.

On the half-hour Thompson made an excellent solo run and after ghosting past several defenders had a shot well saved by Hulyer.

On 37 minutes the unlucky Tommy Gardiner was forced to leave the field when an earlier knock had failed to clear up. On 39 minutes the pressure told on Yarmouth when Thetford got their second goal. After some good work in midfield Armes found himself in acres of space, and with only Pride in the Yarmouth goal to beat slotted the ball wide of the helpless keeper.

With the second half barely two minutes old Thetford's Wood put the ball wide when clean through. Thetford were now asking all the questions and Yarmouth where struggling to contain them.

Yarmouth where forced to make another substitution when Marcus Godbold looked to have pulled up with a groin strain and was replaced by Daniel Crane.

The second half was still only 10 minutes old when Thetford scored their third goal. With some fine work, Pask and Wood combined to set up Mann, who went through and scored with ease.

It was all Thetford and a matter of how many they would score. Yarmouth never gave up and battled hard to get something out of the game.

On 64 minutes as a last resort Liam Bartley came on to replace Robbie Oldham, who had given his all. But Thetford had their tails up and were completely dominating the play.

Yarmouth on the odd occasion ventured forward, and with both Roach and Crawley up front they were always prepared to try their luck when the rare chance was on offer.

Fifteen minutes remaining and Thetford scored their fourth goal after Yarmouth lost possession in midfield. The ball was quickly played out to the right by Gibbons, who found the impressive Patrick Armes. He cut inside and unleashed a thunderous shot which Pride had no chance of stopping.

Three minutes later Thetford completed a good day's work. Armes again picked up a loose ball and hit a cracking shot. However, the goal was only given when the referee had to consult with his assistant as to whether the ball had crossed the line before Elliot Pride in the Yarmouth goal had saved.

Yarmouth: Elliot Pride, Johnny Watt (captain), Marcus Godbold, Robbie Oldham, Tommy Gardiner, Toby Gourbould, Adam Sewell, Gareth Palmer, Stuart Roach, Nick Crawley, Mark Thompson. Subs: Liam Bartley, Joddie Harrison, Daniel Crane.
